I gave my cleaning lady a raise today, even though she didn't ask, as my own little contribution to fighting the recession.

@kmavii you're tweeting too hard for them..they're intimidated. no one can help you now
You're all tweeting too hard this morning. I can't keep up. It's all too much.
Let's hope she was grateful enough to overlook the bionic condescension
Written by kalena –This wasn't meant to be "self important". With so much negative economic news and so many people cutting back I was concerned for someone who works for me and I care about a lot. While her other clients are cutting her hours, I decided to pay her more not because I had to, but because I wanted to. It's funny when a selfless act becomes TTH. Thanks to the response here, I have dropped her pay back down. Happy? ;)
Written by brettschulte –There'd have been no response if you hadn't felt the need to announce your good deed to Earth, but I'm glad you're on the job giving the recession the ol' one-two. Or are you? MAKE UP YOUR MIND
Written by Eleopteryx –O.o You dropped her pay because of TTH?? And yes... I rather agree with @Eleopteryx... Doing such a thing is commendable, admirable. Announcing it to nearly a thousand followers? Meh.
Written by big_love –I thought it was funny, maybe even inspiring, and I think the people that know me who follow me did too. Not gonna change who I am because a bunch of random people I don't know choose to "follow". It's interesting the negativity in some people and how it colors their perceptions.
Written by brettschulte –I think you may be missing the point, Brett. It's cool to give your cleaning lady a raise ... kudos to you. It's weird to announce that to people, as if you're looking for a pat on the back. (I'm not saying you are ... just that it reads that way.) It seems less of a "selfless act" when you're seeking applause. (Again, I'm not saying you are, but I understand why some read it as such.) Peace.
Written by BrianAdExec –@BrianAdExec sums it up pretty well. This is mainly the reason, I think, tweets like this are on this site
Written by big_love –You're all missing the point. I'm not seeking applause, I was trying to set an example. Our economic problems are largely the result of a "recession mentality" where spending contracts, causing manufacturing to contract, and employment to contract, etc. It's vicious cycle, and what we need to is spend and put money BACK into the economy, which was my point. No where in there is anything "self important". I thought it was a nice thing to do, and I hoped it would inspire others to do the same (and it probably did). The only people who've seen this negatively are people I don't know, and I have to wonder, why are they following me anyway?
Written by brettschulte –I actually think we all got the point, Brett -- it's the presentation we were sort of skewering. But there's no sense in belaboring it at this point. 'Nuff said on both sides. Peace.
Written by BrianAdExec –Brett... I think your now commenting to hard on tweetingtoohard.com... I think a rest from the computer might do you some good bro. No need to defend your self, it's a web page.
Written by LivingTheater –so. obviously. seeking the pat on the back. I mean, I'm dying laughing that your "trying to set an example" lol. I mean, doode, your just making this post even funnier with your inflated sense of self importance. Thanks Gandhi, you've "inspired" me hahaha. I think your getting so much attention on this one because (and tell me if I'm missing the point ROFL): - it read like you were announcing that you had a freaking maid in a recession - that you were looking to get a "good for you" for giving your maid a raise - as well as announcing the fact that you have enough money mid recession to give an unnecessary employee MORE money. Stop dancing around and being polite kids, this was so 100% destined for TTH, haha. Don't get me wrong though, I'd trade places with ya in a heartbeat Brett, haha.
Written by krazyken04 –I gave TWO of my cleaning ladies a raise after reading this. I've now helped the recession more than you have.
Written by AleksMicovic –In order to become a true rich douchebag, one must not appear to be a rich douchebag. This is of the utmost importance, Signore Brettschulte. Any fortune won by douchebaggery must by douchebaggery be maintained, and I dare say you reveal yourself to be the douchiest of the douches, sir.
Written by NickMachiavelli –Oh, and how does raising yourself up to others as "an example" of generosity and selflessness NOT count as being self-important? I offer only the humblest of queries to your douchiness.

Written by NickMachiavelli –Thank you all for the feedback, there's clearly a lot that goes into and individuals perception, and I appreciate you offering your perspective... some more than others of course, but all have their value. Thanks again. :)
Written by brettschulte –Given the tenor of the comments on this page -- my own included -- I think Brett should be acknowledged for his willingness to at least engage the comments and offer a rather generous response.
Written by BrianAdExec –haha, go machiavelli! there you go, the final word on the sensitive subject of political douchebagginess. anyway, it does seem like a good way to get people to follow your example, i give you that. learn to be more subtle next time though. hopefully your cleaning lady gets her raise back?
Written by iateyourgranny –Thats cool. Can I call you Jesus now?
Written by DaveMc28 –Give your help a raise because you're rich. Tell the world. Take it away when the world doesn't care you're rich. Sound like an ass in the process. Great job! :)
Written by csgrimm –i'm curious what you told her when you took it back - "sorry ms cleaner, but you can't have your raise anymore because strangers on the internet were being mean to me."?
Written by thallium –Can you paypal me 100 bucks to fight the recession? This college student really needs it!
Written by Urda –Brettschulte - you are a truly worthless individual
Written by hotcelebbitches –hotceleb you have to take Brettschulte for what he is, completely free entertainment. That is the beauty of twitter, not only can it be used for social networking, but also perhaps more importantly used to as comic relief, look at as a giant circus, Brettschulte is simply one of the many narcissistic clowns.
Written by Grimey_ –@csgrimm I agree. She may as well just cut out the middle man and lie about giving the help a raise. In fact.... there we go, I just gave both my pool boy and my personal valet a raise. Don't I seem important??? :)))
Written by SamRollin –oops i said she
Written by SamRollin –All hail King Arthur Pendragon
Written by AaronRigby –I gave my sideline ho a raise after reading this thread
Written by ahm –You are retarded if you don't see how TTH this is. I have a hard time believing you are a real account after reading the rest of your twitter stream because most of it is TTH. You are a self-important douche bag. You are not inspiring others, you are trying to look cool/important/rich and most people roll their eyes at you. No one cares, truly good deeds are done anonymously and not put onto twitter looking for praise. Hell, you didn't even need to put 'cleaning lady' into the tweet, you could have just said 'employee'. You didn't need to put 'even though they didn't ask' into it either, you could have just said you understand times are hard so you are giving your employees raises. You realize if people are cutting their employees hours it's because they have to, not because they are bored, right? So you look even more smarmy trying to say you are trying to inspire people not to do that by making them feel bad they can't afford what you can. Also, you look even more TTH by defending everyone elses TTH. It proves that true self-absorbed douche bags are so deluded that they truly can't see who they or others are called self-absorbed douche bags. You are not a special or unique flower Brett, get that through your head.
Written by Beth_Pettit –Trying to be an inspiration, my ass. I read the original tweet and was on the fence between "How nice" and "What a pretentious douche", and once I read your other tweets (ex. "Ugly people"), all of a sudden both sides of the fence became "What a pretentious, insecure douche". A true hero knows he is, a phony has to try to convince everyone.
Written by Voltafan79 –For the record, I was doubting whether or not he actually cut her pay again. Then I realized he never denied it. What an asshole.
